Writing Forum

A writing forum is a great place to go and get moral support, advice and answers to tons of different questions from those that know more than you. This is a great place to trade ideas and insider information on the world of writing, editing and publishing.

Writing forums abound on the Internet and we have listed a few below. We have also listed a few key things to remember about forum etiquette. To get the most from your writers forum experience try to play nice.

Etiquette tips:

  • Remember we are all human. The other writers in the forum are real people with real feelings, as are the moderators and administrators. Please be respectful.
  • Adhere to real life standards of behavior. If in real life you are rude, crass or obnoxious let this be the time that you put these behaviors away. Use tact and diplomacy.
  • Share your knowledge. Don't just come to the party, bring something with you. You benefit from sharing too.
  • Debates are always welcome but personal attacks are not. If someone breaks the 'play nice' rules don't go for 'an eye for an eye' attitude. Report the offense and rise above.
  • Be forgiving of mistakes. If you aren't perfect don't expect others to be. If you are perfect you don't need a forum!
  • Be patient. Hey, we all work for a living right? Sometimes people aren't able to get to the forums as often as they would like.
  • Give constructive feedback. You suck, isn't constructive. If someone helps you let them know. If the help was huge tell them about your success.
  • Search the postings before you comment. Kind of like an FAQ, if the answer is there no one wants to repeat it again.
  • Post a question once not across numerous boards.
  • Please follow the forum format for postings so you won't get your hand slapped and delay your responses.
