A personal web page or personal blog is almost as common today as cell phones; everyone has one. And there is nothing more personal than an online diary. Remember when you had those little diaries with the locks on them that you wrote your most personal stuff in? You would have been deeply chagrined to have anyone read it but people all over the world are writing in their personal online diaries and sharing their deepest thoughts, desires, hopes, dreams, regrets and more.
Sometimes you are reading through these personal blogs and thinking, "too much information" or "didn't need to know that" but many times you find a kindred spirit or a phrase will reach through the Internet screen and grab a hold of you. Those who write in these online diaries will share stuff they wouldn't even want their mom or best friend to know about. Why?
Some write to deal with stress or it is a way to get to know themselves better. Some might be looking for advice or trying to get things off their chest the only way they can. Diaries have long been the place where you could share things you might not even be able to voice out loud.
There are many sites and software programs that will help you get your own personal journal blog started. Some sites are free and some charge a nominal fee. Some of these sites have special software that can help you download your daily entries straight from your desktop. Unless you know HTML or are very well versed in computers you will want to find a site that is easy to use and easy to keep updated.
When you keep an online journal you can jazz it up and make it even more personal with a photo album, music, videos, a biography page, links to your favorite sites, and more. With sites such as these you can find all the help you need to get your diary online started. WordPress is a free service that is a very good and well- known host for blogs. It is a full service system. Two other free sites are t-blog and Blog City. Google owns Blogger which might not be the best choice for businesses but will work fine for personal blogs. Greymatter is a weblog/journal software program that is open source. Xanga has a free and premium version. The premium can cost you from $4 a month to $100 for a lifetime.
Anyone can do this and with all the help that is available on the Internet you don't have to know a thing about how to do it at first. About.com has a free tutorial you can sign up for that is sent once a week to your email. You can also sign up for their free Personal Web Pages newsletter.
